Meet Dr. A’Seret
Educator. Mom. Leader.
Shaped by Schaumburg, Raised by District 54
Dr. A’Seret Dokubo has deep roots in District 54 as a proud alumna of Collins Elementary School and Keller Junior High, later excelling as a track and cross-country athlete at Conant High School where she earned a scholarship to SIU Carbondale
As a daughter of an immigrant father and first-generation college graduate mother, Dr. A’Seret Dokubo brings a unique perspective on the value of education and diversity in our schools

Why I’m Running
Committed to ensuring District 54 continues to deliver high-quality education while embracing the diversity that makes the community strong

Passionate about creating an inclusive environment where all students can understand, appreciate, and celebrate their differences
Accomplishments
Earned a Doctorate in Education from Johns Hopkins University and a Masters in Education Leadership from Louisiana State University
Developed a behavior resource classroom initiative that resulted in remarkable student improvements: 1.2-point GPA increases, 1.4 years of reading growth, and 87% of students meeting behavior goals
Coached special education programs across five states, leading to exceptional outcomes including students with disabilities outperforming state averages and near-zero suspension rates
Priorities for District 54 schools
-
The Problem:
The academic achievement of historically marginalized sub-groups in our schools (low-income students, Hispanic students, Black students, and students with disabilities) is significantly lower than non-low income and white peers. This achievement gap has persisted pre and post COVID.
Dr. A’Seret’s Vision:
Conduct an in-depth data analysis to understand root causes contributing to achievement gap (curriculum, differentiation, discipline, belonging, etc.)
Hold community meetings to identify the needed supports for both students and parents to increase the achievement gap.
Implement programs and curricula based on data and community feedback.
-
The Problem:
There has been a 60% increase in suspensions since school year 2022-23
Dr. A’Seret’s Vision:
Create a community-led review of current discipline policies to ensure policies are fair, transparent, and supportive of student growth.
Explore alternative-to-suspension best practices.
Collaborate with school and district leaders to provide professional development to staff to address student needs in a holistic and meaningful way.
-
The Problem:
Recent School Board appointments (2016 and 2019) have have happened without meaningful engagement with our community
District is diverse with 92 languages spoken and 61% students of color, however only 16% of staff are people of color.
Dr. A’Seret’s Vision:
Develop criteria and transparency for board appointments.
Prioritize teacher training programs that target educators of color.
Create a mentorship program that pairs new teachers with experienced mentors who can help them navigate challenges and feel more connected to our district.
